Publishing Your Family History - Genealogy Bulletin 31, edited by William Dollarhide; Published Jan/Feb 1996; New back issue; 48 pp; Item # GB31; The price of this item includes postage within the United States.

This back issue of the Genealogy Bulletin features an article on how to go about writing your family history. This is an excellent article and one you should not miss if you want to write the “family book.”

Dollarhide wrote another article for this issue, that’s quite interesting, especially from an historical perspective. It’s called “Counting Genealogists: A New Survey Reveals the Numbers of People Actively Involved in Genealogical Research.” The article details a Maritz Marketing Research survey that was done in 1995. All kinds of stats are given, but what’s really fascinating is that the following genealogical interest levels were found:

  1. A great deal – 7.1%
  2. Somewhat – 38.0%
  3. Not at all – 54.9%
  4. Hmmm. Bet that’s different today…

Another major column in this issue, still of relevance today, is Donna Potter Phillips’ article on “Genealogy, etc.” Also of interest are about 3000 queries. The issue is very heavy on AGLL advertising, which is all dated…
